The name says it all!!! If you’re a history
buff who is looking for adventure, then this is the trip for you.
This is a wonderful
opportunity to experience what the Gold Rush Stampeders did
100 years ago! The Chilkoot Trail is a national historic site run
by
the Canadian/US Parks Service, and it truly is a site to behold.
Day 1
We’ll pick you up at 9am and after a quick gear check, head
off for the drive to Skagway Alaska. This 2 hour drive is very
scenic with beautiful lakes and mountains to feast your eyes upon.
We’ll lunch in Skagway, a small little town that takes you
back in time. It boasts unique tiny stores, wooden sidewalks, and
many of the original buildings. When we are done, we’ll head
off to explore what remains of Dyea. This historical site is where
we’ll camp for the night.
Day 2
After breakfast, we’ll take a short walk to the trailhead,
climb straight up the first hill, and sign the guest book! Today’s
hike takes us thru Finnegan’s point and on to Canyon City.
Here we’ll set up camp and explore the remains of this
100 year old town.
Day 3
Our destination today is Sheep Camp- this is the last camp
before the peak. The rest of our time will be spent relaxing
and energizing
for the big climb tomorrow.
Day 4
Today is the big push over the summit. This steady climb
gradually increases as we close in on the peak. Once
on top, you’ll
be amazed at what you’ve just accomplished. But it’s
not over yet; there is still a long hike to Happy Camp.
Day 5
You’ll notice the terrain changes and the views are spectacular
as we are high above the lakes. We’ll descend into Deep Lake
and have our lunch right beside the river. Heading off feeling
full, we’ll continue on to the shores of Lindeman
City for the evening.
Day 6
This morning we’ll climb out of Lindeman and hike to Bare
Loon Lake-a beautiful spot for lunch. On to Bennett Lake where
we’ll camp for the evening and reflect on what you’ve
just accomplished.
Day 7
Today we’ll enjoy the spectacular train ride back to Skagway.
The track is built right into the mountain side and for 2 hours
the sheer beauty of terrain will YWE you. After arriving back in
Skagway, we’ll load up and head back to Whitehorse in time
for supper.
